I’ve been playing with a band called The Good Fear and so far, it’s been really fun. I got GarageBand 2 working again and we’ve resumed our recording of a couple of new songs. You can listen to some songs by clicking here with your mouse.

GarageBand is one of the coolest programs I’ve ever used. I’ve recorded lots of demos, song parts and even full songs with it. I was really excited to hear that iLife ‘05 included a new version of GarageBand (GarageBand 2). Among some of the many improvements include a built-in tuner, pitch adjustment, multiple simultaneous track recording, etc.
Well, it just so happens that the band I have been playing with lately is in the process of trying to get some recording done so I thought it would be the perfect time to upgrade to GarageBand 2. I ordered it and it arrived a few days later.
After sneaking into (read: walking into) the music building at the U of A the other night and finding an empty room with a piano, we set up my Powerbook and some mics. The idea was to record some piano parts for a song since none of us have a real piano. Anyway, about 3 tracks into the process, GarageBand 2 stops working and refuses to allow us to record more than 3 tracks. I followed all of the suggestions from the Help Menu but to no avail. I never had any problems like this with GarageBand 1. I’ve even tried all of the suggestions from the Apple Discusssions page (which, as it turns out, is full of complaints because I am not the only one experiencing this problem). No luck. Frustration. Now I’m considering dumping this program and re-installing GarageBand 1 until Apple releases a fix for this. Ughh…

Weezer “In The Garage”
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou is the most refreshing thing I have seen on a movie screen in a long time. Movies have become so incredibly boring to me in the last few years. Every time I think that something has progressed as much as it possibly can, whether it be film, music, or as in my previous entry, video games, I am always pleasantly suprised to find out that I am wrong. Too bad some people just don’t understand.

The Zombies “The Way I Feel Inside”
After spending nearly every day for the last 2 1/2 months sitting in front of my television playing Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, I finally beat the damn thing. Now that it’s over, I’m actually kind of sad. I’m not a big video game fan, but I swear, this game is amazing. I honestly cannot get over how much fun it is to play it. Now I gotta wait a couple of years for the next episode…

50 Cent “What Up Gangsta”
Well if you’ve been considering making the switch, then now is the time. The new Mac mini which was revealed today is perfect for anyone who has been thinking about getting a Mac but doesn’t want to spend $1000. In fact, the Mac mini is only $499. You already have a monitor so what are you waiting for?
Travis Morrison “Change”
That’s right folks. I went back to my workplace last night to get my laptop power adapter that I left there only to find myself sneaking a can of Dr. Pepper in the dark which is TOTALLY against my New Year’s Resolution. So much for half of my plan. Wait, how about this: No french fries for a year and only one can of Dr. Pepper a week. On Mondays. What a loser. I only made it 10 days. Damn…

The Black Keys “Busted”
For some reason, I have never seen a single episode of Austin City Limits. I guess I have always thought that it was reserved for contemporary country music. Obviously that is not the case since Wilco will be performing on the next episode. Use the PBS Station Finder to see your local station’s PBS schedule.

Wilco “Heavy Metal Drummer”
I’ve been real curious about all of those HBO Original Series shows that everyone keeps talking about. The only one I’ve checked out so far is Six Feet Under so I finally subscribed to Netflix a few days ago and ordered the entire first season of Carnivale. So far, it is really good and by really good, I mean I watched 4 hours of it last night.

Black Heart Procession “A Sign On The Road”
Instead of making resolutions that can never really be enforced such as “eating less” or “exercising more”, I prefer to eliminate certain things from my life for an entire year. Past resolutions have been no Wal-Mart for a year and no McDonald’s for a year.
Since I didn’t make a resolution last year, I’m gonna make up for it with something called “Double-Elimination Year 2005 BAMM!” DEY2005B! will consist of the elimination of two of my most favorite things that happen to also be two of the worst things you can put into your body. Soda Pop and French Fries. It’s gonna be tough to get rid of the fries but not as tough as the soda since I drink quite a bit of Dr. Pepper (sometimes 2 or 3) each day. However, I am confident that I can do it and I have a feeling that generally, I will feel a lot better in 2005 and maybe even lose some weight (not that I have much to lose).
So wish me luck and enjoy this photo of me enjoying my last can of Dr. Pepper that was taken last night…
