New Mac Ads

Apple Add comments

Apple has released six new ads for the Mac. For a while now, they’ve concentrated solely on the iPod and iTunes but the new ads focus on things like ease of use, invulnerability to viruses and not having to restart all the time. They’re really funny but since they’re poking fun at PCs, I imagine there will be quite a bit of backlash.

Ironically, as I was watching the one about not having to restart all the time, my Powerbook locked up for the first time since November of last year. I figured out a few minutes later that it wasn’t actually locked up but that my mouse had wiggled its way out of the port but still, I had a good laugh this morning.

Watch the new ads here.

The ads are really funny, and I’m a PC guy. I think Apple is moving in the right direction as far as marketing their computers, but just aren’t there yet. Most people know that Macs are better than PCs, but don’t know why. Though they are still attacking PCs like a 4th grader, the point they’re making is less child-like. Now if they’d just actually SHOW their O/S and the abilities instead of just saying “we’re better than PCs”, they’d see an immediate increase in sales.

Very good point. I guess the next logical step would be to show people why they’re better at certain things instead of just saying it. Maybe this is just the beginning of that? There are some very impressive apps that come bundled on a Mac that would turn a lot of heads if they showed them in action.

Nevermind. I saw the “iTunes / iLife” version of the commercials last night during American Idol (yeah, I watch it, and I’m not ashamed). It’s actually a great, informative commercial letting everyone know that Macs come bundled with iTunes-like applications for all their needs. Of course, they do take their poke at PCs, comparing iLife bundles to Calculator and Clock.
