Happy Halloween

Holidays No Comments »

Instead of dressing up like a banana again this year at work, I decided not to dress up at all. However, when I got to my desk, this guy was sitting in my chair. Now everyone thinks I dressed up as a random idiot for Halloween. I would never do that. Duh.

What the hell is this guys supposed to be, anyway? A rastafarian with a Christmas sweater? I snapped a couple of photos and then went home since there’s nowhere for me to sit.

Anyway, have a Happy Halloween, ya’ll.

Happy Dad’s Day 2007

Friends/Family, Holidays 2 Comments »

While digging through an old photo album last night, I came across this great picture of me, my Dad, my sister and our late dog, Duffy. That smile on my face, coupled with the Christmas tree in the background leads me to believe that this picture was taken on Christmas morning and we were about to open presents. Oh yes, those were some good, good times.

The one thing my Dad was always really good at when my sister and I were kids was finding out exactly what we wanted for Christmas. Instead being showered with a ton of crappy little things that we would’ve been excited about upon first glance, we usually received something major like a bike, a Nintendo, a Barbie house, etc., and then a few items to compliment the big gift.

I’m sure there were times when I’d go to my friends’ houses on Christmas afternoon and drool over the fact that they’d gotten tons and tons of gifts, but overall, I think we ended up way more satisfied in the long run. In fact, the gifts we received were so monumental to me that I could probably name them all if I tried. How many people can say that?

It was no accident either. My Dad is one smart dude. I’m sure he knew that come March or April when my friends’ cheap toys were broken and/or out of batteries, my quality mountain bike would still be getting me around the neighborhood in style.

Thanks for being such a great Dad, Dad. There are a million stories like this I could tell. I love you. Happy Father’s Day.

Happy New Year

newyears.jpgIt’s a few days late but Happy New Year anyway. Did anybody do anything sweet on New Year’s Eve? Anybody got any resolutions for 2007?

I’m gonna try the ole “No Sodas” resolution that I tried a couple of years ago and failed miserably at. So far so good, but it’s only been 5 days.

I’ve been working with Sarah over at Bittersweet Styles quite a bit lately. I’ve been taking/editing photos with our new camera and also re-designing the eBay store and all the listings. I guess it’s safe to assume she’s my new boss. I actually have two jobs now because I’m still at my old one (but only part-time…and that’s a whole other story).

Hmm, what else? I guess that’s it. Have a bonus-filled 2007.

Happy New Year!

This year we skipped the parties and boobies on Dickson Street. Instead, we went to Eric and Laura’s house to celebrate the new year. Once inside, we discovered all sorts of handy home improvement gadgets to go along with the handy home improvement couple that is Eric and Laura (now called Lauric). Dustin and Brandy (who recently got engaged) came over for a while and it ended up being possibly the best New Year’s Eve I’ve ever had (except for when Lauric paused live television just minutes before the ball dropped, leaving us clueless as to when the new year actually began).

White Wire Or Green Wire?

Holidays 4 Comments »

Dammit! Every year I buy Christmas lights for the house and every year I always end up having to go back to the store for more. This year I decided to play it smart and measure the front of our house. I got out the tape measure and discovered that it is exactly 48.5 feet from one side to the other. When we got to the store I noticed there were two icicle light lengths to choose from. 18 feet and 13 feet. 18+18+13=49. Perfect! Right? Wrong!

This year, it wasn’t the length that screwed me up. After putting up the first 18 feet, I opened the second box only to discover that this package held lights with WHITE wire. The first strand had green wire. The last box also had white wire. For Christ’s sake, DO PEOPLE REALLY HAVE A PREFERENCE?!? And if so, why in the hell do you pretty much have to read the fine print to discover that there is a CHOICE?!? So this year has proven to be no exception. Back to the store for more lights. Merry Freakin’ Christmas.

UPDATE: I’ve gotten several comments and emails about this topic. Most are informing me that the green wire is for your Christmas tree and the white wire is for your house. I don’t believe I have ever seen icicle style lights on a Christmas tree so that pretty much ruins that theory. For a second there, I thought maybe the green wire was for bushes/shrubs, however, there are an entirely different style of lights for bushes/shrubs besides icicle lights. Yeah, I am pretty sure icicle lights are reserved solely for decorating your house, therefore, the mystery remains unsolved…

Halloween 2005

This Halloween marks the second year in a row that I pushed aside the usual zombie costume for something else. Last year I was some weird rando and this year I was a banana. I think I’ll ditch the ole zombie for good cause funny costumes kick the crap out of scary ones. As a matter of fact, I don’t think I saw a single scary costume at the Halloween dance party last night. Here’s a recap of what I can remember costume-wise:

  • Me: banana
  • Sarah: bumble bee
  • Bryan B.: Freddie Mercury
  • Jonathan: gay redneck
  • Eric: a gangsta carrot
  • Laura: a pea
  • Jason: a rasta dude?
  • Jill: a meth addict
  • Nick & Chris: Team Zissou members
  • Sage: RoboSage 1.0 (#1 costume)
  • Jay: Extra-Long Cape Man
  • Paul: Beetle Juice
  • Tessa: Veruca Salt

There were a ton more but I had like 2 beers so I don’t really remember much else. I’ve got some pictures to add to the gallery but until then, you can check out Sarah’s blog or Laura’s blog to see more pics.

“Blue” Christmas

Holidays No Comments »

Well, Sarah has taken off for New York City which leaves the house to me and Blue (see photo below) this Christmas. We can’t decide whether we should watch Emmet Otter’s Jugband Christmas or It’s A Wonderful Life. I’m leaning more towards the latter, but Blue, of course, is all in favor of seeing the dancing otter so we’ll probably make time for both.

Merry Christmas Eve…
