OK check it out. I’ve been watching a ton of TV lately. Seriously, I haven’t watched this much TV since I was a kid and The Cosby Show, Roseanne and America’s Funniest Home Videos were in their prime.
This time last year, I was super pumped about my Netflix account. I even upgraded my account from 3 movies at a time to 5. I was watching all sorts of movies that I’d missed in the theater as well as discovering a crapload of great documentaries that I’d never heard of. Since then, however, things have changed quite a bit and now I’m down to 2 movies at a time and I even caught myself sending a couple back last week that I hadn’t even watched. Wtf?
Now that I’m caught up on Deadwood, Entourage and Curb Your Enthusiasm, I can’t seem to find much that interests me on Netflix anymore. And looking at my queue, I’m not really all that pumped about what’s coming up soon.
So what shows have I been watching lately that have drastically increased my time in front of the tube? Let see, on Mondays, it’s Monday Night Football and Studio 60.On Wednesday, there’s 30 Rock, Lost and Inside the NFL. Thursdays have The Office, Six Degrees, The Fantasy Show and the occasional episode of My Name Is Earl. Add all of those to the normal SportsCenter-in-the-morning, Conan/Daily Show-at-night and random channel surfing I already did and that’s one hell of a load. Phew.
So now I have to ask myself whether or not to keep Netflix. Especially since I could save a few bucks by dropping it and adding Showtime which would give me access to Weeds and Dexter.
What do you guys think? I’d better decide quick, though, because I obviously don’t already have enough shows to watch…right?

In case you’re the nosy type, I found a nifty plug-in which shows what Netflix DVDs I currently have at home. You’ll find it in the sidebar to the left underneath the “Recent flickr Photos” section. Unfortunately, Netflix doesn’t have a small image for Deadwood Season 2 yet so for now, all you’re gonna see is that lame “Image Not Available” graphic until I get something else at home…which might be a while because I’m only on disc 2 and there are at least 5 or six. Whatever. Deal with it.

The Pin Pals are a team of elite bowling enthusiasts. Actually, they’re just some friends of mine who happen to play in a local bowling league. Since softball is over until springtime, I’ve been itching to do something on Tuesdays. Fortunately for me (unfortunately for the Pin Pals), they were short a bowler (actually 3) tonight and so I filled in. I am not a very good bowler. I usually get worse with each game and tonight was no exception. Here are my scores for all three games:
- Game 1: 124
- Game 2: 114
- Game 3: 106
I have never seen so many people in one place in Fayetteville who are definitely not from Fayetteville. Also, the lady bowling next to us was actually named Flo. Add $2 beers to that and you’ve got yourself one sweet night. WHOA! Cocktail is on TBS!

Sarah and I decided to make up for the fact that we never go to see movies in a theater by watching two movies in one weekend. The first one was so good that we were totally setting ourselves up for a letdown by watching a second. But we risked it anyway (Why am I talking like this? Who in the hell says, “But we risked it anyway” when referring to watching a movie. I am turning into an idiot.).
This time around it was Hustle & Flow. Our reasoning behind going to see this film was the fact that it was filmed in Memphis by a Memphian and it’s always sweet to watch a movie and try to see places you know. Plus, we heard one of the characters wore a Lucero shirt towards the end of the movie.
I’m not a film critic so I won’t try to tell you why this movie was so good. All I can say is that it was so good and maybe you’ll want to check it out. Or you can eat it. It’s your choice.

As usual, my Dad treated us all to a movie while visiting this weekend. We chose Charlie & The Chocolate Factory despite my fears that it would totally suck. I am a big fan of the original and not just because everyone says I look like Gene Wilder. I was afraid that re-making the film would ruin it. It didn’t suck at all and was, in fact, totally sweet. Yeow!
I got to work this morning and told some guys I loved it and one of them said, “Really!? Because everyone I talked to said it was terrible.” I said, “Hmm. That’s weird because I thought it ruled.” But what I should have said was, “Hmm. That’s weird. Everyone you talked to must be a moron because I thought it ruled.”

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou is the most refreshing thing I have seen on a movie screen in a long time. Movies have become so incredibly boring to me in the last few years. Every time I think that something has progressed as much as it possibly can, whether it be film, music, or as in my previous entry, video games, I am always pleasantly suprised to find out that I am wrong. Too bad some people just don’t understand.
