Celebrating WordPress

The Web No Comments »

Tomorrow, July 1 is the first Unofficial International WordPress Day and it’s about time, too. It’s basically a celebration of the existence of WordPress which is teh awesomifst!!

For those of you who have been interested in starting a blog but aren’t too sure of where to start, I have one (well two sorta) words for you: WordPress. Whether you’re looking for a hands-off approach (WordPress.com) or you’re tech-savy enough to host your own blog using your own domain name (WordPress.org), this is hands-down the best software out there in my opinion. And I’m not just saying this because by doing so, I am automatically entered to win a ton of great prizes.

I currently run about a dozen websites and all of them are powered by WordPress. It’s incredibly easy to use and it’s friggin’ FREE! That’s right, free. Plus, there is a group of heaven-bound developers working all the time to enhance the design, security and efficiency of the software. It seems like every time I turn around, there’s a new update to install and with each one, it just keeps getting better.

If this post seems rushed, that’s only because I know that most of you guys aren’t interested in all the technical jargon that I would normally be spouting off about software, standards and the web in general.

As always, feel free to contact me if you need any help getting your blog started. As most of you know, I’m a little obsessed and therefore, extremely willing to help.

The Fayetteville Flyer

Fayetteville/NWA, The Web 1 Comment »

The Fayetteville Flyer launched a few days ago. Bookmark that dude because it’s gonna be a great place to go for local and local-related information/opinions. It’s brand new so the content is a little light right now but it’s growing fast.

Make sure you check it often to keep up with Fayetteville’s only “100% Accurate Weather Center”.

New Bittersweet Styles Site

The Web, Work, eBay 3 Comments »

I finished the new (very Web 2.0ish) Bittersweet Styles site this evening and it’s now live for the internetters to see.

For nearly a year now, BittersweetStyles.com just re-directed over to the eBay store. But now, it’s gone all official on us both by receiving it’s very own place on the web. Aw, how special.

Head on over and check it out by clicking here or here or here. Or here.

And if you’re looking for some hott ladies fashions, don’t be shy about bidding on some of the goodies we’ve got for sale over there. Everything is always one-of-a-kind so once it’s gone, it’s gone for good.

Line Rider

CrasyriderA friend of mine sent me a link yesterday to one the coolest things I’ve seen on the web in a long time. It’s called Line Rider and before you click on the link, you need to understand something: It is addictive as hell. Consider yourself warned.

Anyway, after you mess around with it for a bit, head over to YouTube and watch this video to see the possibilities. Or if you wanna see mine then check out Crasyrider 1 and Crasyrider 2.

For Rent: Your Life

Picture 1.jpgIn case you haven’t noticed, things are getting pretty crazy in the Web 2.0 world these days. So many brilliant ideas are popping up left and right. Many of them are copies of copies of copies that only offer one extra feature that the previous ones didn’t include. Every few weeks, however, something truly original surfaces that’s so simple yet so complex at the same time.

Enter Dandelife which is a “social biography network” that allows users to sign up and tell stories about their life by means of a time line which includes text, photos and even video. It sounds simple enough but the real meat to this one is that as a user, you will be able to license your writing to companies who are looking for real stories for use in advertisements, case studies, etc.

In other words, instead of paying a copywriter to come up with a fictious account of “my baby’s first time using the potty”, companies like Pampers could find an actual story written by a real mother on Dandelife.com and pay them for the use of their story. Or as a writer yourself, you could probably find some serious inspiration there as well.

So if you don’t mind the idea of possibly renting out pieces of your life, head on over to Dandelife and start up an account. You could get rich. Really, really rich.
